School Holiday Club
I try and keep the days as varied as possible, often planning ahead by asking the children what they'd like to do out of a range of suggestions. The children love to play a part in organising their day and often choose certain favourites, getting very excited when that is agreed :-) Obviously for certain activities we are dependent on the weather and therefore the plans have to be quite flexible, but I always have some indoor activities planned as backup. I aim to do 1 bigger outing a week which could be soft play, farm park etc.
Here are some examples of the type of thing we do regularly:
Trips to local Country Parks (California CP, Dinton Pastures CP & Wellington CP)
Feeding the Ducks
Visits to local play parks (we're lucky to have several nice parks locally)
Walks in the woods (local wooded areas, The Lookout etc)
Visits to Soft Play centres (The Madhouse, Monkey Mates and Jambinos in Oxford)
We also enjoy:
Blackberry Picking (when in season)
Leaf Kicking (Autumn)
Puddle Jumping (when wet of course!)
Collecting 'treasure' (children are given bags and they collect whatever they want - usually sticks, stones, leaves, conkers, mud, pinecones, grass etc)
Lots of picnics!!! We often take a picnic on our adventures as well as drawing material, toys etc.
Waving at cars, lorries etc. on the motorway bridge (children get very excited when a lorry beeps!)
As well as trips out, we enjoy arts and crafts projects, baking etc. as always, I try and get the children to lead the activities where possible.
For people who are worried their children will get bored with the younger children around, I'd like to reassure you that I have NEVER experienced this problem so far. You'd be amazed at how the older and youngers one interact!! The older ones love 'helping' with the younger ones and generally bossing them about ;-) and the younger ones look up to the older children and really look forward to seeing them!
